5 Months

Hadley baby is 5 months old today!

Oh yeah, and she got a helmet on Monday..5monthshelmet

Of course I cutified it for her :)

All of her (yeah right) favorite things on it.  Owls, St. Louis Cardinals, White Sox, her name and.... corgis!!

So, why did she need a helmet (A DOC Band to be exact)?  Here's a little video I found that explains it pretty well:

Basically, when she was in the womb, she was positioned a certain way that made her head tilt to one side.  This made the muscles on the other side of the neck really tight and she was not able to turn it to the right. This is called Torticollis (and we now do stretches several times a day to correct it).   We did not notice it until she was about 2 months old.   Because she kept putting her head to one side, she developed a flat spot and because of that her facial features shifted and the plates of her skull are out of place.  This can cause hearing and jaw problems down the line if it does not round out.  SOO she got a helmet to fix it.   Here is a good shot of her odd shaped head..

No baby books had anything about you needing to reposition the baby every time they go to sleep.  They didn't tell us it at the hospital, the nurse that visited us did not tell us and our pediatrician did not tell us at our first few visits either.  Seems like important information for new moms if you ask me!!  Oh well though.  Just gotta wear the thing for hopefully only 6-9 weeks and then she'll have a perfect noggin' :)

The rest of this month has been good though, other than the head drama.  She's starting to really want to move around.   This is her newest trick. Climbing out of the boppy:

She's getting better at tummy time. She can hold her head up for longer periods of time and can scoot around when she really wants something.   She has stopped rolling over.  I think she decided that she did not like it.  She prefers to use her legs anyways.  I hold her up and she jumps on my lap or tries to walk across the room.  It is super cute :)
Gibson still likes her from a distance..  He'll go up and sniff her and lick her face, but if she grazes his fur with her pinky finger, look out!  Grumpson comes out in full force!  His barking is driving us batty (especially since Hadley wakes up from loud noises now.. joy), so we're trying to train him to be quiet..  We'll see how that goes.  He lovvvvves is barking *rolls eyes*

Sleeping has been a real issue.  She is up 3-4 or 5 times a night.  I bought a sleep training book to hopefully get her on a better schedule.   This helmet is making that a little hard though....

Teething has been in full force too.  Her hands are always in her mouth!!  There is one tooth that has looked like it is about to pop out for almost 2 months now.  I am always surprised when I look and it is still just a sharp little bump in her gums and no white thing popping through.   It's crazy to think of how many teeth we are going to have to go through this with! hahaDSC_5566
You can see her lopsided head pretty well in this one too..

Other than that, she gets more and more beautiful every day.DSC_5612

Don'tcha think?

Sorry for the short hiatus.  Things have been a little crazy around here the past week or so!  Hadley has not been sleeping well, which equals a sleep deprived Kelly, which equals me being not so productive.  Today, she gets her DOC Band helmet, which I mentioned might be a possibility in her last few monthly updates.  We weren't going to get it if it was just a cosmetic thing, or if insurance did not cover it.  Surprisingly though, our insurance is covering 90% and determined that it was medically necessary for Hadley to get it!  So, last week we went in and took some crazy 3d photos to get the exact measurements needed for them to create her band and today we're going to go get her fitted and start the Hadley Helmet Adventure..  I am nervous, but excited at the same time.  I will go into more of why she needs the helmet in her 5 month post (just a few days from now, can you believe it?).

In Gibson happenings, we've been trying to train him to stop barking so much.  It has been somewhat successful.  We're on our second training device and it is slowly making a difference.  Hopefully, it will start to click with him soon :)  I'll, of course, write a more detailed post on this later.

OK, back to me being super nervous/excited about the events occurring later today...

New Furminator Products Review!

Looking this good doesn't happen on accident...

It takes these!!

Furminator  has a new line of products, of which they graciously sent me 2 to try out!  There are 11 new products, so I wondered which 2 I would choose.. Well, they made that easy with a handy dandy tool on their website.  Click here and click on "Tell Us About Your Dog".  Just click on the boxes that most closely describe your dog and they will tell you which tools to choose!

So what did Gibson (and I am guessing most corgis) end up with?

The Small Firm Slicker Brush!

The slicker brush is really cool..  It is split down the middle so it is super flexible and gentle on sensitive doggie parts (head, tummy, legs).  I can brush from side to side or up and down, which is really helpful when Gibson is squirming around.  There are two lengths of bristles on each side, so I used the short  side for most of his body and then the long side for his butt fluff! It really worked out well

Another neat thing is that it comes with a cover for the brush!DSC_5480

The other product I received was the Curry Comb!

Which looks like a computer mouse with fun little nubbies on the back... :)DSC_5479

I did not have high hopes for the Curry Comb.  I figured it just would kind of flatten Gibson's coat and be a waste of money.. But I was wrong!! I could not believe how much hair came out of Gibson AFTER I had just brushed him with the slicker brush for 10 minutes.  It was just flying out!  Amazing. The only thing.. You HAVE to use this outside.  The slicker brush (like most brushes) catches the hair, so you don't really have to worry about brushing in the house... but this thing does not.. Overall though, love it :)

One thing I did not like.. The brushes came in those really hard to open plastic containers that you have to open with scissors... and when I finally got it open, I saw that I cut through some of the directions.... Oops!  I hate those stupid containers!!!DSC_5483

So, anyways.. yesterday, it was a beautiful day (80 degrees, what what!), so I took Hadley outside to watch me groom Gibson :)

Here are some before and after photos of our session...

I think his butt is the biggest difference.  Mostly because he refuses to let the 'original' furminator touch it.  Guess it hurts his little booty.  :)

Final product!

And the hair...

Cute baby.. :)

I really like these new furminator products.  It's great that there are tools custom fit for your dog.  They were tough on corgi fur, but at the same time, nice and gentle.. if that makes sense :)   Give them a try!! :)

4 months

My little Hadley turned 4 months old on Wednesday!DSC_5217

She's my little snuggly peanut!  I swear, she gets cuter and cuter every day.  We had our 4 month check up the other day and she now weighs 13lbs 8oz and is 24.75" long.  I swear, she seems so much bigger than that!  I've been thinking she had to be over 15lbs but nope (my arms fall asleep when I feed her)!   I'm glad we have some more time for her to stay in her infant car seat :)

She was a little fussy pot at the doctors this time (she got woken up from a nap for it), but her doc said she was doing great!  BUT her head is still misshapen I guess :(  We have to take her to a specialist to have it evaluated to see if she might need a helmet :(  Ugh.  It doesn't look THAT bad to me, so hopefully it's something that can just even it's self out on it's own.
I still love your head kiddo

I don't know, she is perfect to me..

We'll see how it goes.....

On a happier note... she loves Gibson!!  He is her new toy.  She loves to watch him and smile and laugh at him.  Whenever she's being kind of restless, I sit her on my lap and call the dog over and her eyes light up!  I hope he feels the same way about her once she can actually interact with him :)DSC_5214

She's been trying to move more and more every day.  The day after she turned 3 months, she rolled over!  She did a few more times a few weeks later and then got bored with it.  Now she is into rolling from her back to her tummy and moving all over the place.  I will set her down on her play mat, and when I come back to check on her she is lying in the complete opposite direction!  We decided to get her an exersaucer last weekend so she can play with things and bounce and 'walk' around and she's liking it so far!

Speaking of walks, going on them is one of the highlights of her day!  No matter how cranky she is, she calms down and loves to look around when we take Gibson out.   I can't wait til the weather is nicer and we can use the stroller!

She's been teething for a few weeks now, so that is fun.   We have all sorts of teething toys for her, but her favorite thing to chew on is our fingers/knuckles.   So, that should be fun when she actually has teeth.. ha.

Last month I said she didn't nap.. well, now she naps and doesn't sleep as well at night... Win some, ya lose some :)

Hmm, what else?   Oh yeah, she's cute :)
