Hadley Feeds Gibson

This is the only way they interact nicely together. Imagine that, it involves food ;)

Yes, Gibson is still not a big fan of the little one.  He still seems protective of her whenever he thinks we are playing too rough or someone new is holding her.. but if it looks like she might possibly move in his general direction, he growls.

Hadley wants nothing more than to pet him and love him.  Every other dog we are around lets her do whatever she wants to them, which makes her excited that maybe.. just maybe.. Gibson will let her touch him.  But nope.  Only if I hold him down and guide her hands for her so she doesn't pull fur or touch his 'off limit' areas.

The vet thinks he's such a grump because he's afraid of her.  I guess that makes sense.  She's a tiny little person that does not have very good motor skills.. and yes, she has pulled on his fur and ears and has made him yelp.  But why does every other dog put up with it?  Corgi thing?

Of course, as the video shows above, he loves her whenever she is eating.  In fact, they are best buds and partners in crime whenever there is food nearby.  Hadley is not the best eater in the world and feeding her doggie sounds much more fun to her.  It's the only way she can get close enough to touch him without him barking in her face.  He'll even lick her hands and face!  She loves it.  When we are at a restaurant, she'll hold out her hands with food in them, looking for Gibson to give it too.  So silly.

Well, there's a little update on how my two kids are getting along.  I hope SOMEDAY they will actually enjoy each others company more, but for right now, Gibson would rather go back to the way things used to be.  Grumpy little bugger ;)

2012 Corgi Butts Secret Santa Gift Exchange

After taking a year off to tend to my newborn child (how dare I?!),  I am back to hosting the Corgi Butts Secret Santa Gift Exchange!  Thank you to Kat for hosting it last year. She did a great job, didn't she??

This year, I am taking a page from my calendar contest and opening this up to anyone with a corgi!  There are so few of us that blog anymore that just having it for corgi bloggers would be kind of limiting.    All I ask is that if you do not blog about what your corgi received as a gift, you will post photos of it on my Facebook Page.  Deal??

The exchange is set up to go on Elfster.com.   You have until November 20th to sign up.   The drawing to match up Secret Santas will take place the 21st. Then all you have to do is buy some gifts for the owner's corgi(s) that you get and mail them to him/her by Christmas (and include a message that lets them know who sent them the wonderful presents!).  Elfster will provide you with their name and mailing address and you can ask them anonymous questions so they will not find out who you are until they receive their gift/you tell them!  You can also add gifts that your pup like to a wish list so your secret santa knows what to get them!  When you receive your gift, please do not open them until Christmas (or Hanukkah, etc) and then post what you got on your blog or upload photos to my Facebook Page!

If you are interested in participating, please email me at ksteck23(at)gmail.com or leave your email address in the comments section of this post and I will send you an invitation.   U.S. & Canada residents only please (shipping overseas is pricey! sorry!).

Please do not sign up if you are not committed to sending a gift.  I've been in gift exchanges before where people have not come through and they are still  hated to this day... lol ;)

1 Year!

Look who is 1!  Miss Hadley!
DSC_9874

So weird that I have a 1 year old!   It seems so much older than 11 months.  Her birthday was on Monday, and it was definitely bittersweet.  I can remember vividly being in the hospital, in so much pain waiting for her to arrive.  Can remember the moment that she was born and the first time I held her like it was yesterday. And can definitely remember when I held her in my arms through the first night, surrounded by pillows so that she would be safe and wouldn't fall off the hospital bed.  Love at first sight truly exists, people.  And that love has grown every day since!  I love you so much, Hadley!!

OK, on to the FINAL monthly update!

1 Year Stats:  She had her 1 year check up on Tuesday and she was a whopping 16lbs 10oz and 28.25" long!  That puts her in the definite shrimp category.  Oh, baby girl.   They couldn't even draw her blood for blood work since her veins are so small!  Ah, well.  Doc says she's is healthy and perfect so I am not going to worry!

DSC_9162

Sleeping:  Um, better?  She's only been getting up once or twice a night, so that's good!  Although now she has decided that she only needs one nap during the day *facepalm*.   Win some, ya lose some, I guess!

DSC_9131

Walking: Not yet.  She still likes to use her walker and push things through the house, but does not seem confident enough in her balance to take that first step.  Plus, I think she LOVES to crawl!

DSC_8989

Eating:  She still eats what we eat and will only feed herself.  She tries pretty much anything I give her but does not eat a whole lot of it.  She usually eats fruit for breakfast (bananas, blueberries, etc.), veggies/leftovers and fruit for lunch (today she had leftover spaghetti, peas and pears) and whatever we are eating for dinner (today it was meatloaf, carrots and mashed potatoes!).  I introduced almond and coconut milk to her this month at meal times.  She seems to dig them :)   And she is still nursing. Strong.

DSC_9174

I am completely torn about weening.  I really do not hate breast feeding. In fact, I kind of love it.  It gives me several sweet and peaceful moments with my baby girl every day.  I know she's not going to need me like this or want to cuddle with me all the time like she does now, so I don't want to rush her to stop.  Plus, let's not forget the weight loss benefit.. I'm 10lbs under my pre-pregnancy weight.  For reals.    On the other hand, I'd love more freedom!  To be able to wear non stretchy clothes.  A pretty bra!  To be able to go out of town or at the very least, stay out with my husband for more than a few hours!  Hadley's doctor told me that I can leave her now and she'll be fine, but I'd still have to pump every couple of hours.  She said that I should try to get through at least the flu season since breast milk boosts the immune system.  We'll see.  I'm just going to take this one day at a time :)

DSC_9026

Talking: She's been the babbling queen for months, but now she is saying words!  Her favorites are mom/mama/mommy, dad/dada/daddy and doggie!   It is super cute that she can actually put words to objects now.  And just this weekend she started saying "mom mom mom mom mom mom mom" over and over when she needs me.  Oh my god, it breaks my heart and fills it back up with love all at the same time!

DSC_9576

Special Skills:
She's kind of lacking in the skills department, unfortunately.  I blame her strong will.  She seems to like to learn things at her own pace.  When I was at the doctors with her, they kept asking, "can she do this? or this? or this? Can she do this?" and my answer would always be, uhh no...   Things like pointing, clapping, waving.   I feel like a horrible parent for not spending more time to teach her these things!  I was covering my face in embarrassment and her doc was just laughing at me.  Hopefully, she'll learn some of these things in the next few months so her next appointment will be less embarrassing ;)

Firsts this month:

1st time buying pumpkins!

1st time in a hotel room!
DSC_9094

1st time decorating a pumpkin/ 1st Pumpkin Fest!

1st time trick or treating!!

And... 1st Birthday Party!!
This probably deserves a post of it's own, but I'm gonna shove it in this one ;)  Her party was the day before her actual birthday, and she had a Pumpkin Fest Parade party!   We usually have a party for the Pumpkin Fest Parade, since we live on the parade route, so this worked out perfectly.  We had lunch for everyone, and then hung out in our yard and watched the parade!  Afterwards, we watched her eat cake and then chatted with everyone til they went home.  I think everyone enjoyed it!

DSC_9635

I spent a ridiculous amount of time making all of her decorations, but I think they turned out pretty adorable. I used the fabric from her monthly photos to make flag banners, table runners and place mats! I am nuts!   The runners/place mats are reversible with a plain pumpkin fabric so we can use them throughout the season, and I moved one of the banners into her room and it looks adorable.  So, I'm going to get more use out of my efforts :)

DSC_9638 DSC_9639

I also hung up all of her monthly photos and they were a definite hit!   DSC_9642

And I found these jack-o-lantern punch balloons to use as decoration and hand the rest out to kids for  a favor..  They loved them!

Happy Birthday, sweet heart.  Mommy and Daddy and everyone else you know, loves you so much!!!

Updates

So, I am officially a terrible blogger.  Apparently I have decided to take an extended leave of absence following the calendar contest.  My bad.  I've actually been super busy the past month or so.  I got a new work-from-home part time job, which along with taking care of Hadley and daily chores, eats up a lot of my free time.  I am loving working again, but it doesn't leave much time for blogging.  I am also crazy busy gearing up for Hadley's 1st birthday party, which is this upcoming Sunday! For some reason I have decided that I am Martha Stewart and am hand making table linens and birthday banners.  More work that I anticipated. Oy.   Hopefully it all turns out adorable and is worth it ;)

Enough about me though, the real reason for this post was to update you on Mr. Gibson!  I know, I have neglected him on his own blog big time.  Like, for reals. DSC_8893

The reason why I haven't talked much about him lately is probably because he has been a complete pain in the butt.  He's taken off more times than I can count in the past few months.  Always comes back, but still.  One time, I was walking him WITH HIS LEASH ON, when he spotted a squirrel, pulled so hard that I lost hold of the leash and then almost got hit by a garbage truck.  Luckily, the driver saw me struggling with his leash and started to slow down an come to a complete stop before he hit my dog.  Ugh.  Seriously, Gibson would have been smushed otherwise :(

DSC_8391

I don't know.  I kind of realized that I haven't been giving him enough love lately, so that could be part of the problem.  Isn't that awful?  We'd come home and just say, "hi dog" instead of taking the time to bend over and pet the poor guy.  He'd be so excited to see me in the morning, but I'd just zombie-ly walk him to the back door, let him out, feed him and then ignore him til it was time to go for a walk.  So, I've been taking more time to pet him, cuddle him, talk to him and play with him for the past month or so, and I've seen an improvement.  I've also thought about signing him up for obedience class again. The one he took when he was just a puppy.  I think he needs it.  His recall is pretty much dunzo.

His barking also got pretty uncontrollable again.  I know, I posted before about how Operation No Bark was a success, but we got lazy.  I still believe that the Pet Agree Ultrasonic Training Aid is an amazing product and with work it works great, but again,  we are lazy apparently.  SO, I broke down and got Gibson a citronella spray collar!  And... it has been awesome!!  How does it work?  Well, he barks and it sprays him in the face.  Pretty much annoys him enough that he'll stop barking.  And he's figured out that if he barks quietly enough, he doesn't get sprayed, which is fine with us!! It's that loud high pitched bark that just drives us nuts!  I don't keep it on him all the time.  Just when he starts acting up or when I put Hadley down for a nap.  Has worked out great. He has learned that his barking is annoying I think.. finally!  I will update on this in a few weeks to let you know if I am still happy with it :)

In happier updates, he went for his annual wellness exam this month and it was the best vet visit ever!  We haven't been to the vet since his last wellness exam last year! Isn't that crazy?  I credit that to his enzymes that I put on his food. No more upset tummies!   Besides that, he is 24.7lbs (up a little, but not bad), his teeth went from a 2 to a 1.5 on the bad teeth scale (woohoo!) and the vet said he is generally doing great!  I was pretty proud that I at least was able to take somewhat decent care of Gibson while raising an infant :) (well, health-wise at least..)

Well, that's it for now.  I really didn't mean to write this long of a post, but I guess I had a lot to say :)  Hopefully, it won't be that long between updates again :)

11 (11!) Months

DSC_8925

Good lord.  My baby is a month  (well, 3 weeks now) away from being 1 years old!  I know I say this every month, but crazy, crazy crazy.

Our monthly photo shoots are getting close to impossible.  The shot above was pretty much a  miracle.  She'd rather run away and play with the fabric like this...

DSC_8960

Last month was another action packed month for Hadoodle.   She went to her 2nd White Sox game and was sooo good!
DSC_8470

When she got a little antsy, I just plopped her down on the ground (much to the disgust of my parents) and she crawled around and played with her toys to keep herself entertained.   I swear, it is so much easier when your baby is mobile.

DSC_8492

We also took Hadley on her first visit to the orchard!!  Fall is a BIG deal in our house, so Orchard Day is almost like a holiday to us :)
DSC_8773

She was super sleepy during our time there, but she was a trooper and liked looking at all the apples..

...and hanging out with a bunch of pumpkins!!
DSC_8666

We brought back with us a bunch of her new love.  She lovves to eat apples!
DSC_8844

It is so cute, she carries the apples around with her and gets so excited to eat them.  She definitely loves to feed herself.  She self feeds pretty much all of the time now.  I hope this means she'll be a good eater, but we'll see.  Still breastfeeding, but slowly cutting out a few feedings.  She might wean sooner than I thought..

She got a new sippy cup, which I call a 'sucky cup' cause it has a straw, that she absolutely loves as well.  I just keep it on the floor and she can drink whenever she wants (which is a lot!).   Doesn't she look like a little model here?
DSC_8860

She got together with all of her baby friends in town a few weeks ago. It is crazy how big they are all getting!

Here they were back in June:
DSC_6921
Becoming little people!!

On the development front, she's getting closer and closer to walking!   She can now use her little walker (and LOVES it), climb stairs and stand unassisted!  I caught it all on video...

On the sleep front..  Ugh.  Horrible.  What the heck?  After a good month stretch where she only got up once a night, she's back to getting up every hour again.  When will this stop?? Maddening, I tell you!  She does look cute taking a rest on Gibson's dog bed though... *rolls eyes*
DSC_8864

Whelp, that's all for now.  Next Hadley post will be her BIRTHDAY post!  Can. Not. Believe. It.

Calendar Photo Strips

This is just a little post to let people know that I swear I am not crazy :)  You may have seen the announcement saying that the 2013 Corgis! Calendar is now available to buy! Well, along with that announcement, I also sent out about 75 emails telling people that their photo has been featured in the calendar.. and I've received back about 75 emails from people telling me that I am nutzo and their dog is not in the calendar afterall.

Kidding about the 75, but it seems like I have confused people, so I thought I'd blow the calendar up a bit so you can see...

There are little photo strips at the bottom of each page featuring 8-10 more photos (other than the winner)!  I thought this was a way to spread the love a little bit and since there were SO MANY adorable photos submitted!  I am sorry that they are not bigger, but it is something, right? :)

Here are all twelve that you can click on to view larger.  Hope you like them and that this clears things up!
