Do you talk to your dog? IN PUBLIC?

Sunshine
Hi Mommy, how was your day today?

Of course we all talk to our dogs.  Gibson is the best listener I know!  I talk to him like he is talking back (and a lot of the times I talk back for him).  Comes in handy when you are home alone and bored.   BUT I ask you this:  Do you ever do this in public?

Not around your friends or your family or other dog people.. I mean out on walks when you THINK you're all alone, and you're telling your dog that he 'took a nice poopy', and then.. BAM! Someone is 2 feet away from you watering their flowers and looking at you like you are insane.

Raise your hand if this has happened to you.  Please tell me I'm not the only one :)

I've also been caught off guard by people while cussing at Gibson (for eating cat poop) or just chit chatting w/him (It's a beautiful day, isn't it, Buddy?).  I usually play it off like it's no big deal and say hi to the person and then move on.   I mean.. doesn't everyone talk to their dogs?  I hope so, cause otherwise, it'd be really embarrassing when I got caught :)

Do you do this?  Please tell me you do.  Pretty please?  ;)

P.S.  My little scare w/Gibson on Monday was just that: A scare!   He was completely fine the rest of the day and has been since.  Phew!!

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Your definatly not the only one. I have had the same occuances as you with talking to Whiskey. After the people pass or finish giving me an insane look I usually giggle and continue my conversation with Whiskey. Happy Friday! :-)

The best looks I get is when I tell the boys to sit or no bark and then say Thank You....I usually hear, you said thank you to your dogs...YUP of course I did. Corgi Crazy = me

I take my corgi into the office sometimes and when I do I'll often talk to him. My office neighbors look at me as if fearing for their very lives.

The insane ones are those who don't talk to their dogs. The sad ones are those who don't understand the good feeling both dog and human have with the human-canine conversation. We Corgi owners know our dogs can correct our pronunciation, could praise us when we poop, and could groan at our jokes but they are just a bit unsure if that would lead to a reduced level of treats, so they don't. Keep chatting...even in public, you are not alone!

I CONSTANTLY talk to Dexter and Violet on walks. Sometimes I have an issue where Dexter's poo is a little runny (I know, TMI) and he gets it on his pants. Poor guy. But then I take the crazy one step farther by having him ask me to wipe his bum and the neighbors think I'm mildly retarded. POO ON THEM! I HAVE 2 CORGIS AND THEY HAVE NONE!

Every day I talk to Hercules like he is walking tall right beside me. I always tell him how good he is and what a great, handsom man I have. I do get looks all the time but I dont care because it is was makes me and Hercules happy.

Do I talk to my dogs in public? My first thought was "Who doesn't?" =)

Of course I do, and sometimes they talk back.

OMG, you are not alone! Amy and I have whole discussions. Sometimes they are philosophical and sometimes they are about why I won't let her chase the kitties who hang out in our bushes to watch the birdfeeder. Sometimes I answer for her, sometimes I just act like she's answering me and keep going...and yes, I do sometimes praise her poop. *doh*

I talk to my corgi girl in public, but much more often people start not to look at me like I'm crazy, but to talk to Kami also :D Maybe it's because corgis are rare in my country, lot's of strange people start talking with her - I think I could give lots of "you're insane" looks everyday :) For example, few days ago in some kind of old crafts fair a smith tried to make sound like cow makes, so Kami would herd him :D

Totally!! I talk to Sadie when we walk down the block all the time. Especially when I just get home from work. I ask her how her day was haha. So yeah, you're not alone!!!

hahhahaa.. I love you how you know we corgi owners talk to our dogs already. So true! I talk to Lilu constantly. And have been told condescendingly more than once "she can't understand you." I beg to differ, and there's no way I could break the habit now!

OF COURSE I talk to Chelsea all of the time. I don't have a problem...they do! She loves me. They don't. I don't give a rat's what they think!

We talk to our dog, a German Shorthair, ALL THE TIME. We started as a puppy giving her lots of Good Girls!! when she went "big potty" outside and I have to stop myself from doing to same to my friend's dogs. My husband is particularly sweet when he talks to the dog, and he swore he wouldn't ever baby her. = )

We talk to our Pemmi all day long. I Don't think I could survive my time alone without some Corgi pants to talk to!

I talk to mine all the time. In complex sentences. I'm sure all my neighbors call me the 'crazy dog girl'. It's sort of ridiculous but I can't stop doing it!

Of course! Other than words of encouragement, we also talk bad about those dogs we pass who bark at us. I tend to use English phrases with him, which of course makes people think I'm insane. Oh well, what can you do?

I actually always talk to my dogs. Don't care if anyone else hears - unless I'm discussing a poopie. And I talk baby talk and sometimes I yell - that's not so good, but if there is a coyote 50 feet away and one of the Corgis is misbehaving, I yell! So keep up the talking. Corgis wouldn't know what to do if their people didn't talk to them.

I do talk with Koda, not a lot but I do talk with him, usually when we are walking past another dog like "be nice, nice, nice, nice, nice" and then "good boy" or "hey that wasn't nice, he's your friend". I think it is neat that you talk with Gibson, it will come in handy when you are talking with your little one, I talked to my kids all the time and people used to compliment me saying that it was great to help with their language skills :)

I always talk to Gryff when we go outside or on walks. I ask him how is day was when I get home from work, I tell him about my problems, I tell him to follow me when we're outside, tell him to quit chasing bunnies, that he's being bad when he still tries to chase them...

sometimes I get weird looks, but I see nothing wrong with having a conversation with the dog when we're walking. I mean, he has to catch me up on his day too :)
