Evenings Outdoors

One of the best things about summer is the long evenings you can spend outside. Gibson thinks so too.  He loves it when we leave the door to our screened in porch open until we go to sleep, so he can just sit out there and watch the world go by...

And bark and anything and everything that walks onto our property of course.

But sometimes, that's not enough for the Gibbers.

I wants some grass, ma!

So, we go out for some fetch!

Gibson has gotten very good at fetch, but lately he's been calling it quits after about 3 tosses.   Maybe he's losing some of his puppy energy finally? Or it's just too hot out.. Or he has a.d.d. and there's just too much else going on outside!  Whatever it is, he still begs me to play fetch w/him and loves it while he's running around :)

We also love sitting on our patio in the summer and Gibson has been VERY good about keeping close OFF LEASH.    Yep, I decided to let him have a little freedom and see how it went.   He loves to sit near us and keep an eye on the yard...

When he gets up and looks a little too excited, we just tell him to stay and he does :) Good boy!   When he wanders a little too far off we tell him to come back and he does that too.  Is 3 years of training finally clicking with him??  Could be!

We also love our evening walks to the popcorn stand in the summer.  Gibson especially loves it because he gets to eat popcorn the whole way home :)

How bout you? Do you and your dog spend a lot of time outdoors in the evenings now that it's summer?

We spend as much outside with Gryff as we can! Winter lasts much too long here in MI, so we take full advantage of the summer months here - going to parks, going to the dog park, going by the Huron River so he can take a swim, anything! We leave our doors open when it's not super hot out so he can watch the squirrels and smell what's out there. Hope you and Gibson are enjoying your summer so far! <3

Unfortunately Virginia Beach is way too humid, so we have to wait till about 7-8pm to go for a walk, and even then it's short. Giuseppe isn't a fan of the heat just like her mom. Kisses to Gibson!

I think 3 years must be when they finally mature.
Chelsea's birthday is tomorrow and after 3 years we have finally started trusting her to be out of the kennel while we are away or asleep.

Gibson looks so cute and I love your screened-in porch. Here in LA we've gone from the nice and cool June gloom to the upper 90's and blinding sunshine overnight. So Blue (my Pem) and I are pretty much indoor creatures till about 9 p.m. when it cools down.

We sure do! Louis is also learning to stay close to us, off leash, because my yard is only 3/4 of the way fenced in. As much as I miss some of his puppy ways...I sure to enjoy being able to spend more time with him in the yard :)

Sadie loves when we leave the front door open and just the screen door is separating her from the great outdoors! Haha. I gave her some freedom this weekend at my aunt's house, and she didn't do horribly...but she didn't do that great either haha. I need to train her a bit more I think! But she lovessss the summer!

Gibson makes a great guard dog protecting his yard! great that he is learning to obey you and stay close to you or come back when called!
