The Glove Collector

Gibson is a scavenger on walks.  It is his goal in life to find something. ANYTHING.  Preferably edible (yeah, THAT gets annoying), but other items are fun for him as well, as has been well documented by Puggie.  If he finds something, he'll usually pick it up and bring it home with him (or as far as he can until he finds something new).  Well, every winter Gibson picks up the same thing... gloves:

Yes, that is my new glove collection in my back yard.  Apparently they are super easy to lose because they are everywhere.  These are only the ones that have made it all the way home.  There are lots more that Gibson has dropped a block or two from our house (too much of a burdon to carry all the way? Not sure..).

Now, I will ask you all what I ask Ben... What am I supposed to do with these things?? Every once in awhile Gibson will pick one up and shake it like it's his prey that he just killed...  But other than that they just sit there. Piling up...  Is it ok to throw them away??  Or maybe I should make some dog toys out of them? What would you do??  Do your dogs 'collect' anything weird?

Wow, interesting!

Our Daisy has never picked up something outside and carried it around like that so I've never had to decide what to do about random mittens. The closest she gets is an undying love for socks. She doesn't take them anywhere, she just likes to sit with them and collect their smells. (EW!)

If she did collect mittens, I'd probably just let her play with them if they weren't too gross (maybe give them a wash?) until they became too gross. I've thought about stuffing socks, but Daisy always removes the stuffing from animals so I don't see what the point would be from stuffing them if she's just going to remove it. So for Daisy, I probably wouldn't stuff the mittens when they are most likely fun just the way they are.

Would Gibson know if you removed them? One Track Corgis might notice right away. :)

hahaha! This blog literally had me rolling around laughing, cause I coulde just picture Gibson trotting home with a glove in his mouth and you kinda rolling your eyes. (Cause I know I would). Whiskey doesnt collect anything, just likes to roll in stinky poop. And I think you should keep them or make a ball (kinda like the boxer balls) out of them.

The only thing Luna has started picking up and bringing into the home with her are leaves. She is FASCINATED with them. I have no idea why, but I find Gibson's glove thing very endearing.

Maybe you can make a glove rope out of them. MOM

Tibby is a collector too. Although we havn't found any gloves yet. Maybe when the snow melts in 4 months she will start finding gloves.

When she was a baby she found a pink pacifier on a walk. It was so cute! She carried it all the way home and then tried to eat it. She also found a pink baby sandal. Her favorite thing to collect are black rocks. But she will bring home mouthfuls of leaves or twigs if she gets the chance.
I throw it all away, because she would try to eat her 'prizes' (or chew on the rocks!) and I don't want to go to the vet and have them pull pieces of pink baby sandals out of Tibby's tummy!

In the house she is a much worse 'collector' she LOVES anything silver. Anything: spoons, shoehorns, hammers, sissors, knives, combs, ect. ect. ect. If she can pick it up she will steal it. She also will take every sock, dirty underwear, glove, hat and scarf she can find.

Cali collects socks...she fishes them out of my hamper...and she finds the ones I leave around my bedroom...even when I get them out of the laundry, before I can put them away, she will snatch them...she usually collects them all on our bed...when we take them away, she will follow us and watch where we put it, only to try to get it back...

she will try to get your socks off of you as you are putting them on...I don't know what it is about socks that she loves so much :-)

Louis doesn't really have the attention span to actually carry anything for a great distance. I sure do remember Puggie, and when Gibson brought him home though :) My little guy wouldn't have the patience.

The question is...once you fashion the gloves into a toy for G, would he love it as much? Or, is it only in the form of a glove that it is interesting to him? Hmm...

You could start a lost and found box outside your house...charge $1 per item for Gibson's hard work? :p

Gus doesn't pick stuff up when we're walking, but we have a neighbor dog who carries their stuffed duck everywhere with him. It's hilarious :D

you should tie them end to end and hang it on your christmas tree. bailey doesnt collect anything at all. he uses and destroys everything at the moment. hahaha.

Lola once found a walnut that she picked up and brought home with us. I used to make her leave it on the front step. When we went out, she'd pick it up and carry it around and at some point she'd drop it, but then she'd pick it up on the way back and carry it home. And leave it on the front step until the next walk. I have no idea why she loved her walnut so much but she did and was very territorial about it. Finn was not allowed to touch it.

That's hilarious! On our walks, Ginger has the "amazing talent" to seek out anything edible from a mile away. She'll nonchalantly walk into a bush and inevitably come out with something gross. The other day it was something unidentifiable, which I luckily got away from her. Another time it was an entire sausage. She probably still dreams about that day.
