Home Needed for 1 Pink Baby

Pink Baby was being such a good house guest, until this morning, when I found her doing this...

DSC_8597

Eating our Halloween Candy?? Not cool Pink Baby! Gibson does not approve.

Other than this little incident, she's been an angel... Maybe one of you would like to give her a home for a week?

The first person to comment and volunteer to hosting the pink puppy for a week will get her next! Before you decide, please read more about this little project at Kylie's Blog, so you know the rules and all that :)

Good luck! She has the weekend to play here, but needs to be shipped out Monday or Tuesday!

Update! Her itinerary says she'll be going to Meg's home in California next!

Cuddle Bug / Blogiversary

About a week and a half ago, our boiler broke. I know, fun, right? We had a week without heat, while we waited for the new one to be ordered and installed. It wasn't THAT cold, but it was down to about 58 in the house, so a little uncomfortable. During that time, Ben and I would sit on the couch every night, under numerous blankets, with Gibson in the middle of us as a space heater. Every night, Gibson would fall asleep on us and look like the happiest puppy in the world.

Little did we know, that this week would turn Gibson into the ultimate cuddle bug. Our house is now toasty warm w/a brand new highly efficient boiler, and Gibson still expects us to cuddle with him on the couch every night. It is the new nightly tradition according to him. He'll get as much on my lap as he possibly can before he falls asleep. He even 'demanded' that I come over to the couch with him on Monday, when I was busy working on my computer, watching Gossip girl that night... haha He stood w/ his paws on the arms of the couch and 'woofed' at me until I came over. What a dork :)

This is usually the scene. Wine and all ;)

Pink Baby wanted in on the action too!

Those two are becoming great friends. She loves Gibson. She even decided she wanted to match his costume this year for Halloween!

So, today is my 1 year blogiversary
It started off as just a journal I wanted to keep of Gibson as he was a puppy, but it has turned into much more than that. I feel like we have a little corgi community going and it's great :)

Yesterday I asked if any of you had any questions for me... about corgis, blogging, gibson, baking, anything! Um, one person asked me a question hehe... so here it is...

Could you post the recipe for your wheat bread?
Sure! I use this recipe for my wheat bread: http://www.cookingbread.com/classes/class_ww_buckwheat_honey_bread.html (haha, aren't I fancy?)
It is so easy! If you have any other questions about baking the bread, let me know.J

If anyone else has anything random to ask, ask away!

So now I'd like to ask you readers some questions...

1. What's your favorite things about Corgi Butts (the blog...but you can say what you like about the fluffy bums too I suppose ;) )?
2. Anything you'd like to see more of?
3. Anything you'd like to see less of?
4. Is there anything I could do to make the blog better/more enjoyable?

That's it! If you could take the time to answer that would be awesome :)

Visitors!

So for the past month, I've been hearing about this traveling stuffed dog toy named, "Pink Baby". Who is she? We'll it's Miss Kylie's fave toy, and she is kind enough to share her with the world! I first noticed her on Dozer & Coop's blog, and then Expressly Corgi, and THEN on Corgi Dog News! I had to get in on the corgi sharing action :)

So here she is! Arrived today around noon, and it's been quite the exciting first day for her..

Gibson always gets so excited when I get a package in the mail.. He always assumes it is for him :)

It was love at first sight....

Pink Baby can't get tooo roughed up, so I only let Gibson see her for a little bit.. He thoroughly enjoyed his 10 seconds though ;)

Later in the day, I was asked to puppysit Rigby for the night. Man, I forgot how it was to have such a young puppy around! You have to monitor them constantly, sheesh. It's a good thing puppies are so cute.... lol

Gibson and him played for 2 hours straight... wrestling, playing chase, tug of war.. they had an absolute blast!

Pink Baby thought they were a little crazy :)

I'm glad that Pink Baby will be here for Halloween, that should be fun :) Later in the week, I will post about how YOU can have her visit next, so stay tuned!

P.S. Tomorrow is my 1 year Blogiversary! I thought I would answer any questions you readers might have for me.. About being a dog owner, how I raise Gibson, blogging, baking bread... anything! So, ask away! Post a comment here or email me at ksteck23(at)gmail.com!

P.P.S. Sorry for the horrible photo quality in this post. I was apparently in a hurry that night!

New BFF

Our friends in town recently got a new puppy, and Gibson finally met him yesterday!

The Switch

Well, 'Operation Slim Down Gibson' is underway due to vet's orders. Luckily, he's not THAT overweight, but I'd still like to get him to drop a few :) I've minimized treats, upped exercise and am making the switch to Wellness Core (Reduced Fat of course).

What made me choose this food? Lots of reasons! Now, I am no expert (if you want real dog food expert advice, please visit dogfoodanalyis.com! It is amazing), but I have researched and researched dog food (especially when I first got Gibson), and I know these 2 main rules:

1. No by-products!
2. No corn!

Once you get past those two things, you know you have a somewhat decent food, but it still may not be an AWESOME Healthy food for your dog. There are still a lot of other factors to consider, such as:

1. Convenience
Number 1 most important rule in my eyes is that the food should be the healthiest food that is convenient for you and is in your budget. Don't choose a dog food that you can only buy at a boutique pet store that is 30 minutes away, or one that is too expensive for you.

2. Amount of Meat
The first few ingredients should be a named meat source, such as: Deboned Turkey, Lamb, Salmon, etc. Meals are also acceptable (Chicken Meal, Whitefish Meal, etc) since 'whole ingredients' contain up to 80% water and 'meals' do not.

3. Amount of Grains & Fillers
The less grains and fillers, the better. Grains are not part of a dog's natural diet and a lot of dogs have grain allergies. It is better to have carbohydrates such as sweet potatoes along w/the primary meat and vegetable ingredients.

4. Dog's Health
It meets your dog's health requirements. Some dogs are allergic to specific ingredients or *ahem* need to loose weight, and there are tons of different types of food to fit those needs.

With all of that in mind, these 3 main reason is why I chose Reduced Fat Wellness Core:

1. They sell it at Petco, which is where I buy all my pet supplies. Plus, even though it is more expensive than his previous food, he'll need less of it since there is so much protein and fiber. (the fact that he's a "small" dog, helps too)

2. These are the first 4 ingredients: Deboned Turkey, Turkey Meal, Chicken Meal, Potatoes. I love that I can read the ingredients and not get grossed out at all.

3. It is grain free! Which means less poopies and a healthier pup!

4. I researched "Weight Management" and "Reduced Fat" dog foods, and most not only reduced the fat in their food, but also greatly reduced the amount of protein and fiber. Less protein and fiber means a hungrier dog, which means guilty corgi owners will feed more, which means they'll probably get the same amount of fat in their diet anyways! The Reduced Fat Wellness Core has way more protein and fiber than his old food and less fat too, which, to me, should add up to a weight loss, rather than gain.

So, there you go. My reasons for switching dog foods. I am currently on day 4 of the transition, so it's about half Super5Mix and half Core. By the end of the week we should be 100% Core.

Gibson's verdict? "Nom!!" He lovvvves it. He used to get excited for meal time, but now he can hardly contain himself! Plus, I'm already seeing the benefits.. Less poop AND less begging!

I'll keep everyone updated on his progress!

As I said before, I am no dog food expert (and of course there are many other diets BESIDES kibble, but that's a whole story!), so if you are interested in learning more, please visit dogfoodanalysis.com. Click on "reviews" and find your current dog food. It will change the way you think about how you feed your dog.

Hilarity

I will preface this post by saying this might be something only a mother could love.. Maybe not though... lol

I've always found it realllly adorable when Gibson does this:

I mean look at his little butt, tiny legs and disproportionately lonnnnnng body (hmm and are those love handles I see?). Couldn't get much cuter than that right? Well, imagine you are looking at this cute sight, when all of a sudden...

*Poot!*

A loud fart.

Is there anything more hilarious? This happened 2 days ago and I am still cracking up over it. I don't know what it is that makes silent doggy farts the most disgusting things in the world, but loud ones are so cute and funny. We've only heard him do this 3 times now, so it's like a Christmas morning surprise when it happens. Was that weird? Hmm, hopefully I am not alone on this.... haha :)

Vet report card

Last night was Gibson's yearly check up. He got an 'A' on his report card, but it looked like this in the weight column (✕ is what I thought, ✔ is what the vet thought):

[✕ ] Normal [ ] Thin [ ✔] Heavy

Boo! He weighed 27.3 lbs last night. Up from 26 in July. The vet said he has no waist and that he needs to get down to 25lbs. She also told me that he looked 'portly' when he was only 9 weeks old, but I trust her on this.. I've been bad and have upped his food lately :-/ Why? Well, I'll tell you why..

Gibson has been waking me up crying in the morning.. well before my alarm has gone off. At first I thought it must be because he has to pee, but it's not. It's because he wants to eat. The only reason he pees is because I won't feed him until he does. So, me, being brilliant, decided that if I fed him more, he'd be less hungry in the morning. Instead of a little less than 1/2 a cup twice a day he started getting a little more than 1/2 a cup twice a day.. plus a few extra treats here and there... Didn't seem like much but it must have made an impact :(

SO it's back to the drawing board again and 'operation slim down gibson'. I walk him 4 times a day, which adds up to close to 2 miles.. so it must be the food that is doing it, right? We'll see I guess. Hopefully I can post about him slimming down again soon.. Maybe I'll tape this photo of him above his dog bowl to give him some motivation lol.

Edit to add: his treats consist of Charlie Bear treats (3 calories a piece I believe), banana chunks (frozen and put in his kong when I leave for work), baby carrots, and he'll get some sort of puppy dog biscuit as a special treat ( I might also sneak him some cheese and peanut butter occasionally). He gets Wellness Super5Mix Lamb for kibble, but the vet suggested switching to the reduced fat kind..

Ready for Halloween!

Every once in a while, it's fun to put clothes on Gibson. Ben and I get a kick out of it and Gibson just looks completely ridiculous and silly. Well, it's October now, which means it is perfectly acceptable to put Gibson in his Halloween costume whenever I want :)

"Cheeeese!"
Ready for Halloween!
Doesn't his face look like a little jackolantern here? :)

He did not like the hat so much though..

"Why mommy? Whyyy?"
Why mommy? Why?

He literally sat there with that look on his face until I took the thing off of him. It was pathetic :)

I'm glad that it actually fits him this year. Last year, he was swimming in it!!

hehe, look at those ears :) Ah memories..

Enough about Gibson.... 100th post!

So, I made it to 100, and a few weeks shy of my 1st blogiversary too!

I thought I'd do something a little different for this post and actually talk a little about myself. You see, I actually have a life outside of Gibson and corgis, corgis, and more corgis. I have other interests and hobbies, a husband, an awesome house, fun job, great friends and more :) Gibson is my kid and my angel always, of course... but I'm going to share the spotlight with him for just 1 post ;)

So, this is me:
Yes, I am obsessed w/my Gibson puppy. Can you blame me? I can take pictures w/o him too though, I promise...

See?? Like that.

This is my hubsband (yes, hubsband):
Daddy Love
These are my two boys. Oh and news-flash: The one on the left is named Ben ;) He is my rock. I'd probably be wandering around somewhere aimlessly if it wasn't for him.

This was our wedding..

Did I mention that I'm really really pale? Cause I am ;) I think I'm whiter than my wedding dress was.

This is my home:
It's old and really cool. I love old victorian homes though. I think it's from the 1880's. Oh and it's a lot of work. A LOT.

See?

I love home decorating though. I could sit for hours and watch HGTV.

I also love food. Cooking it, eating it, looking at it, reading about it, smelling it, you name it. I took a $45 cooking class last winter that changed my life and taught me that baking is not as hard as it seems. I now bake a few loaves of bread almost every weekend. I must say, I am pretty dang good at it too! Oh and I don't own a bread maker.. all by hand baby.
DSCF2180
Whole Wheat is my favorite to make :)

With food, comes wine, and we are total wine fanatics. We even honeymooned in Napa Valley :)

This is where I work...
DSCF2173

I know, right?! I am a designer. It's a fun job, I can't lie. When I was in preschool I said I wanted to be a veterinarian or an artist. The moment I found out you'd have to dissect animals in order to be a vet, I chose the latter.

Well, that wasn't so bad. Maybe I'll do this more often if you guys don't mind ;)

And now, back to your regularly scheduled programming..

Fur Angel ♥

People always say that their dogs are their fur babies. Or fur kids. As important as their own children basically. Well, I think they are more like fur angels. Here to touch our lives, lift our spirits, and warm our hearts w/o asking much in return, before they pass on.. They love unconditionally.. As of Saturday, there is another fur angel in heaven... RIP Frankie.

I woke up Sunday morning to see I received an email from Frankie's mom, Lindsey. I figured it was about the calendar contest. Well it was, but she also told me that she had to put dear Frankie to sleep the day before :( I do not know many details, only that he was very ill.

I am still deeply saddened by this news. It seems like only yesterday we saw this spotty nosed little guy gracing us with his presence on her blog:

While the spots faded, his constant look of happiness did not. We all read about his life w/smiles on our faces as well.

On Sunday, I took Gibson to the park with me and let him off leash to run around in the woods in honor of Frankie, who was not yet 11 months...

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
