Illinois Corgi Picnic 2009

Earlier today was the Annual Illinois Corgi Picnic! Gibson had a great time, oh and by the way, did I ever tell you he was part wolf?

Who knew that sweet angel could make such faces! lol

He actually picked up on a wrestling match that him and his friend Midas started in March at the Chicago Corgi Meetup. I think it's so cute that they actually remembered each other and were drawn together again :) BFFS.

So, there was lots of running around and wrestling and *Gibson got bit* bla. Mostly fun stuff though. He was sooo tired that we left a bit early and he's been sleeping since we got home :)

You can check out all of my photos here:

And of course, there's a fun video!

New Clothes!

I bought Gibson a new collar for football season....

Go Colts!

Cute, right?! :) I of course still love love love his monkey collar but I think this is a good fall/winter wardrobe (plus my husband cannot complain that this one is too "girlie"). The monkeys will probably make their way back in his closet in the spring ;) (sorry hubs)

I cannot say enough great things about the place where I buy Gibson's collars. It's called Big Doggy Bling and I don't think I could ever buy a collar anywhere else! They are such great quality and come in the cutest prints (you could even make custom requests!). PLUS they all can be made into Martingale style (and I think the saying should be "once you go martingale, you never go back"... even though that doesn't rhyme... but whatever), which is so hard to find w/cute prints. So anyways, that is why I ♥ Big Doggy Bling!!

Did I ever tell you how hard it is to get a photo of a collar on a dog? I had to tempt Gibson with treats, but it didn't really work out well (which is why the "from behind" photo worked best)...

"Gimme the treat ma!"

"Look, I'll smile reeeeeal big for you!"

"Ok, my eyes are shut.. feel free to leave the treat on my tongue.."

Chewy Chews

I've gone through many different "chews" with Gibson. He is quite the chewer, so it's been quite the quest to find the perfect one.

He started off with a nylabone when we first brought him home, which he thought was totally BO-ring! Not edible, hard to destroy? What's the fun in that?

Next, I gave him rawhides, which he loved, but I was told they are apparently EVIL horrible things that you shouldn't give dogs because they aren't digestible and can be coated in gross chemicals...

That lead me to Bully Sticks. Ah, the smelly, disgusting body parts of bulls. It was love at first sight for Gibson. At first it would take him weeks to finish one and we put up with the stinky breath and stained carpet, since they made him happy and kept him busy. Well, that was until his adult teeth came in, and those $6 a piece sticks disappeared in an hour.

So, I became EVIL (and cheap), and bought him rawhides (flip chips) again. A huge bag for $10 would last a month, but they were making him fat (and stinky), so I needed to find yet another chew alternative.

This is when antlers entered my life. The angel of dog chews. Safe, digestible, natural, NO ODOR, NO STAINS. Expensive, yes, but last FOREVER. I have bought him 2 since last winter and he still has a small chunk of the first one left.

I also recently discovered Ostrich bones at my local farmers market! Gibson adores his ostrich bone, and it has so far lasted over 2 weeks and there is plenty of yummy marrow left for him to find inside. It was messy at first, so I made him chew it on our screened in porch until the coating came off.

So that's Gibson's history of chews. You'll notice Bully sticks was somewhat high up on that list, right? So, last time I bought him one was around...oh... January/February probably... Well, guess what he found underneath my husband's desk last night?

.... Well, I was going to take a picture of it, but apparently someone ate the whole thing already.

"Who, me??"

Anyways, it was an 6+ month old chunk of a bully stick! Ewwwww. He thought it was the most fantastic find ever and did a 10 minute long little dance to celebrate :)

Do you guys have any preference in doggy chews???

Bark for Life Video (finally)

I know, this was last weekend and I haven't talked about it yet! Whoops! I forgot my normal flip camera, so I had to take video with my digital camera and I couldn't use my normal editing software.... sooo long story short.. I got frustrated and it took forever to make :)

Anyways, the Bark for Life event was a lot of fun! I met up with Kerby, who I met on mycorgi.com, and her dog Lucy, so we had the corgis walk together and then they played afterwards. I recommend participating in one of these events if they come to your area (here's some info I found about it online). I hope to make this an annual thing that me and Gibson do!

Oh and here is the video I made! It's really after the event, but it was still AT the event so it works :) Enjoy!

New Sleeping Arrangements

So, Gibson has seasonal allergies. It's been going on for a few weeks now, and I'm guessing it's because of rag weed. He was having really bad runny eyes and nose issues, but benadryl fixed that. He is still itching though. Scratch Scratch Scratch Scratch. I bought sprays and special shampoos and he's still itchy. It's been a little better the past few days, but it was so bad that his scratching kept me up all night for a week straight (I fell asleep at 9:30 on the couch last Friday night.. that's how bad it was).

During all this, something weird happened.. Gibson rediscovered his crate. He started going in there to take naps, which he never ever did before on his own when he was forced to stay in there during the day. Not sure if it's because he feels like nothing is going to make him itchy in there, or he knows that I can't grab him and spray non-itch stuff on him or pick his "scabbies" off him or what. It's really cute though. He even decided it would be fun to sleep in his "baby crate" which has been my nightstand since he outgrew it.

So, we decided that if he liked sleeping in these different places, we wouldn't take him to bed with us one night. And it was amazing. I forgot what space felt like. And having blankets. And not having a furry dog sleeping on my pillow (and that fur left ON my pillow).

I do miss the morning cuddles, but the extra sleep is mighty nice, let me tell you.

P.S. It's September! The deadline for the corgi with blogs calendar is September 30th, so get your entries in!! :)
