So far, so good

I'm happy to say that after visiting the vet, Gibson is back to his old self! :)

I was so nervous to go there... I feared the worst that he had something really wrong with him (a blockage, bloat, poison).. Luckily, the vet checked him over and did a fecal test and it seems he just had an increase in bacteria & mucus, which could have been caused by the italian beef or something else he ate. She said he looked hydrated & healthy otherwise. His tummy was soft and he did not look in pain when she pressed on it. So yay! He was prescribed with a bland diet (some sort of prescription canned food) along with meds (some kind of antibiotic & an anti swelling powder to put in his food) and sent us home.

They told me that the antibiotic would make him feel better almost immediately and it did! About 15 minutes after I fed him and gave him the pill, he was running around looking for more food and wanting to play :) I am also happy to say that he has had no diarrhea or vomiting since the 4am incident yesterday morning! Hooray! :) The real test came this morning, when he pooped for the first time since said incident... and it was solid!! Yayyy!

I'm going to keep an eye on him and really stick to his bland diet until I need to start mixing in his regular food again. Let me tell you though, it's so hard not to give him treats! It has made me realize how many treats I normally give him in day lol. Maybe this will make me cut down on those too..

I'll continue to keep you guys updated. Thank you all so much for the help and good thoughts that you have sent. It means so much :)

Better Day, Worse Night

Gibson seemed almost 100% better yesterday. When I came home for lunch, he had eaten all of his food, he had energy & he was 'smiling'. And he was hungry! He ate treats that he was spitting out the day before and was trying to reach kibble that had rolled under our oven. It was such a relief! I got to leave work early and when I came home all he wanted to do was play. So we played 'fetch' with his favorite squeaky toy for a good 20 minutes. I walked him later on and then he wanted to play some more. I fed him (less than usual + rice) and he ate, but not all of it. Later, I walked him again and he pooped (for the first time yesterday) and it was almost completely solid (still a little squishy though). In any case, he definitely seemed on the mend.

Well, over night I was woken up by my husband saying, "What's wrong? What's wrong?" I thought I was probably having a nightmare that woke him up, but then I saw Gibson standing on our pillows. Apparently he had been pacing around our bed. I grabbed him immediately and took him out. I thought he probably just really needed to poop, since he had only done so once yesterday. Well he did, and then it turned into diarrhea. He was out there for a good 5 minutes pooping. *sigh*

The vet opens in 15 minutes so I am going to give them a call. Hopefully we can get in there soon :(

Bad Day

I mentioned yesterday that Gibson was not feeling well in the morning and puked on our walk. I was hoping he would be better by the time I got home for lunch... Well, not really.

To back up... yesterday when we woke up he did something strange and instead of going to be let out to pee first thing, he walked over to his water bowl and drank almost the entire thing. He then went to pee, came back and sat by the door with his ears down and refused to eat his breakfast. Definitely not normal coming from my little chow hound. I tried not to stress over it and took him on his morning walk as usual. We got to the end of our block and he threw up and then laid down on the grass with his head down :( I felt bad, so I took him home, carrying him half the way...

When we got back, I made myself a smoothie and decided to try adding some plain yogurt to his food to stimulate his appetite. Well, it worked! Woohoo, maybe he just needed to puke and he feels better now? I went to work, posted my blog (and did real work too of course ;) ) then came home hoping to see my normal happy puppy. He seemed somewhat better.. He had his "I'm super happy and cute!" look on his face and was a little frisky when my husband got home. He was not in the mood to walk though, hmm..maybe he was just tired?

So, I went back to work, not really worrying about it.. Came home, and took Gibson for a walk. Well, this was a struggle.. He would not go the long way, so we took a short cut. We got back to the house and I tried to feed him. He refused again. *Sigh*

I tried playing with him and we played our modified fetch/chase game that he loves and he seemed great! Later though, I took him for our night walk (yeah, we walk a lot), and we got to the other side of the street and he (sorry, TMI) had some loose poop and then looked at me really sadly and laid down again... So, I carried him home and then ran off to the store to buy some emergency canned pumpkin...

When I got back I immediately opened the can and scooped out a spoonful of the pumpkin to give to Gibson. He turned his nose away and then finally licked at it a few times. He usually gobbles this stuff up :(

I gave up trying to feed him at this point and decided to just sit with him and cuddle him to try and make him feel better. So, I'm laying on the floor with him, watching Gossip Girl, when he gets up and walks over to me looking miserable and then he threw up all over our hardwood floor (I moved the rugs away). (OK TMI alert again) There was a lot of "stuff" in the puke, which made me hopeful that maybe it was that stuff that was making his tummy feel bad. After I cleaned it up and told him it was ok, he went and laid down by my husband.

He woke up an hour or so later and came and sat by me and looked horrible again. I picked him up and took him outside (he was shaking in my arms) and he (TMI once again) had diarrhea all over the yard. Poor guy :( After that, we called it a night (he slept through it thank goodness).

This morning, he refused to eat again, but did not get sick.. I made him some boiled rice & ground hamburger just so he could get something in his stomach. If this continues through today, I am calling the vet.. I cannot handle it when my little guy is sick :(

I've been trying to figure out why he feels bad..The only reason I can think of is that while we were at the car show, I was eating an italian beef sandwich and a big hunk of beef fell off and he slurped it up before i could grab it.. Doesn't seem like that big of a deal, but maybe all the grease really did him in? *Sigh* I don't know, I just want him better :(

Car Show Weekend

This weekend was car show weekend in my town. It is a huge event.. 800+ cars line our downtown streets and there is also a block party the night before with a concert and food and lots of fun. We left the dogs at home for the block party, but they came with us for the 2+ hours we walked around and looked at the historic cars.

Gibson was a good sport and posed by one for me :)

It wasn't that hot of a day, but it sure did feel like on the sunny streets! Coal and Gibson needed lots of water breaks, which they got since my mom had one of those cool travel doggy water bottle/bowl combos :). It was definitely tiring for the dogs, but I think they enjoyed it. Gibson was a total star as usual. I couldn't believe how many corgi lovers there were! Some good corgi comments that I heard were:

"It's the Queen's dog!"
"Who couldn't love this squishy little butt!"
"Don't chase the corgi sweetie, he'll show you a thing or two about being chased!"
"Does he shed a lot?" (ha!)

Having him with me definitely kept me from becoming bored with the cars :)

I think he is still recovering from a doggy hangover from being so exhausted yesterday (this is his "I'm a beached whale" pose)... Poor little guy looked so miserable this morning, refused to eat, and actually puked on our walk :( I hope he feels better by the time I come home from work :(

Oh yes, and while we were waiting for my parents to arrive on Saturday, I decided to put my short sleeved hoodie on Gibson.. fit him perfectly! lol

I think I shall call him "Funk Master Gibson" :)

Must... be... strong...

Gibson has some new half-siblings that were born in June..  and I can't say I'm not tempted!!

Wouldn't it be cute to add a little red-headed tri girl to our family??

Or this little boy..

Sigh, if only puppies did not require money or work or vet visits or carpet cleaning or excercise. I'd love to have one of Gibson's sisters or brothers some day!

Seriously... Sigh...

Oh yeah, I don't think I've ever posted a picture of Gibson's mama.. isn't she adorable?? :)

I think her face looks so much like Gibson's :)

Must... save... money!

Ripples! (Gibson's dog treat review)

So, I was contacted a while ago ask asked if I would write a review on here for "Ripples - The Softer Healthy & Delicious Dog Treat." Why not?! I thought. Well, the sample arrived this weekend and both Gibson and I were quite excited!

Since I was not going to taste test the treat itself, I thought I could provide the technical aspects of Ripples.

The treat I received came in a partially clear plastic package and was the chicken flavored variety and medium size. A perfect size for corgis I might add. They claim on the front that they are "healthy" and "low calorie/low fat". A quick peek on the back confirms this, listing the following:

-Not less than 30% protein
-Not more than 5% crude fat
-Wheat products instead of corn
-No by products
-Contains sweet potatoes!

Sounds more healthy than a lot of chews I've seen, but taste was the real test. So, now on to Gibson's review..

"What is that?? I wants that!"

"Nom, gives me!"

"Oh it hads a package. Ok gives me it like this!"

I finally "gaves" it to Gibson after I inspected it's softness, rippled texture and smell (quite chicken-y!). As you can see, he quite enjoyed himself!

Any treat or chew that makes Gibson dance is a winner in my book! I would say this is a combination of a treat & a chew since it lasted longer than a regular treat, but not that long. He devoured the whole thing in less than 10 minutes. He is quite the determined eater though!

So, after the crumbs were all sucked off the carpet by Gibson, I must say that the Ripple was a hit. I definitely do not think these are a 1 to 2 times a day treat (like the package suggests), but I think as a once in a while awesome treat, these are perfect!

Twitter / Giveaway

There is a new feature here at Corgi Butts: apparently I Twitter now. If you look to the left, you can see a neat little widget that shows my latest "tweets". It's basically just mundane things that do not really warrant a blog post from me :) I'll also probably post on there whenever I write a new blog post. Gibson might even talk on there a bit! haha. So that's it. Follow if you'd like or don't if you don't want to:

Also, today is the last day to enter the giveaway! I will do the drawing tomorrow. You can win $25 worth of merchandise from the Corgi Butts Shop, KA Designs and/or Lil' Squirt Tees OR have that money donated to Corgi Aid!

Come on, you know you want to! :)

Happy Birthday Gibson!

He started off a little shakey..

..but eventually settled right in at our home.

He got cuter by the minute..

..and we went on grand adventures.

He kept growing and growing..

..and lost his 2 front teeth.

He passed obedience with flying colors..

..and helped us celebrate the holidays.. getting spoiled with tons of presents.

He became my muse..

..and lost a part of his manhood.

He survived his first winter..

..and realized his doggy job.

He met other corgis...

..and became BFF with his cousin.

Today, we celebrates his 1st birthday..

..I'd say he's had a pretty good 1st year of life :)
